Shangnan Grade 3 Teacher: Ric Week 10 December 10-15
Monday.
Textbook reference: Integrated Primary English
Focus: Review last weeks chapter, present continuous, he is/she is and things we are good and not good at.
Activity:
Read together the story on pgs 19 and 20.
Draw some pictures on the board and the students must tell me what the characters are good and not good at.
Then the students can say what they are good and not good at.
Start chapter 7 – Tony is reading a difficult book.
I expect there wont be much time left so I will explain about opposites and ask the class to name as many as they can.
Homework: Listen to the tape of the story
Tuesday.

Focus: Opposites and present continuous
Activity:
Explain what a library is and what we keep in there and how we should behave.
Ask if Shang Nan has a library, if so where is it and when is it open?
Review opposites and list them on the board.
Teach the sentence pattern;
There is/ are … books and … books in the library.
When the students get the hang of it substitute books and library for other places and objects.
Homework: P. 24
Wednesday.

Activity:
Read the story on page 22 and 23
Practise yesterdays sentence structure.
When asked what a book is about, teach, “The book is about ….”
Draw some books on the boards with obvious themes. The students must say what the books are about.
Homework: What is in your bedroom?
What is in your classroom?
What is in your cupboard?
All questions must have two different answers!

Focus:
Review feelings and present continuous
Activity:
Draw some people on the board and an activity, using the present continuous tense the students must say what they are doing. Play O’s and X’s to practise.
Start chapter 5 p. 16
Quickly review all the basic Q+A:
Name, age, school and class.
Spend time on “where do you live?” “I live at (number), (street), (area).
What’s your telephone number?
Teach new words – meet, group and uniform.
Create a club! Where do they meet? What do they wear?
Homework: Practise the Q+A with your parents.
Tuesday.

Personal details
Activity:
Review all of yesterday’s lesson.
In pairs practise the Q+A.
Make a group membership form then in pairs introduce your friend. Pick two students to come to the front to introduce their friend.
Practise the questions at the bottom of page 18.
Homework: Listen to the tape of page 16 and 17.
Wednesday.

Activity:
Read the story on page 16 and 17.
Play a game to practise in, at, to and on.
Check to make sure that all the students can answer:
What’s your name?
How old are you?
Where do you live?
What’s you telephone number?
Which school do you go to?
What class are you in?
Who is your teacher?
Make sure that not only can they answer the questions but also ask them!
Homework: Listen to chapter 6 p. 19 and 20. (Next weeks lesson)

November 19 – 21
Monday.

Focus: Ordinal numbers, months and dates
Activity:
Review, when is your birthday? When is …’s birthday? What’s the date today? When is …?
Read the story on page 9 and 10.
Tuesday.

Focus: Emotions
Activity:
Students all should know happy, sad, scared and angry.
Ask the students how do you feel on your birthday?
How do you feel during exams?
Teach, how do you feel?
Quickly review I am, he is, she is, they are, we are and it is.
Draw faces on the board and emotions. Play a game where the students must identify the emotions.
If time, turn into a question, are you happy?

Focus: Emotions and the verb “to be”
Activity:
Review Monday and Tuesday’s lessons. Play the game again until all the students can easily identify all the pictures.
Read the story on page 13 and 14 together.

Focus: Back to basics, personal details and reading
Activity:
Review;
What’s your name? What’s his/her name?
How old are you? How old is he/she/it?
Where do you live?
What’s your telephone number?
What school do you go to?
What class are you in?
Who is your teacher?
Practise in pairs then come to the front and introduce your friend.

Focus: Chapter 6 – sports day p. 19
Sports and present continuous.
Activity:
Brain storm sports, write as many as the students know on the board. Explain what a race is and talk about sports day. Does Shangnan have a sports day?
Draw some people on the board doing activities; ask the students what they are doing. Emphasise ing!
Make sure I cover running, jumping and eating.
Teach – shouting, waving, watching and winning.
What is he/ she doing?
He/she is running.
Ask the class what are they good at?
Write the answers on the board. Make sure the sentence structure is clear.
“I am good at running, but I am not good at swimming”
Homework: What are you good at and what are you not good at? Write 3 sentences in your notebook.

Activity:
Following on from yesterday check to see what the students remember. This time ask them, “What is he good at?”
“He is good at ….”
“What is Susan good at?”
“She is good at ….”
“I am good at running, but I am not good at swimming”
Read the story on page 19 and 20.
Homework: Write in your notebook the answers to the questions at the top of page 21.
